Make a donation, host a fantastic fundraising event, or purchase merchandise from the award-winning Gromit Unleashed and Shaun in the City arts trails – all profits are donated to Bristol Children’s Hospital. Every year the charity organise two cracking fundraising events – wear your most outlandish trousers for Wrong Trousers Day, or whip up some delicious homemade treats for The BIG Bake! For ten weeks over the summer of 2013, led by Aardman Animations and Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, giant sculptures of Oscar-award-winning Aardman character Gromit were ‘unleashed’ onto the streets of Bristol and the surrounding area.
The 80 iconic sculptures were designed by prominent local and international artists such as Sir Quentin Blake, Disney Pixar, Cath Kidston MBE, Sir Peter Blake and Nick Park CBE. The Grand Appeal worked with 80 companies who sponsored the Gromits, many of them choosing to fundraise for the charity throughout the trail, and the sculptures were auctioned in aid of The Grand Appeal in October 2013 raising over £2.3 million to help sick children and babies at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
The Cots for Tots Appeal
The Cots for Tots Appeal is part of Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, and supports the Special Care Baby Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital, Bristol. Since 2007, the charity has worked tirelessly to provide life-saving equipment, cots and new facilities for sick and premature babies from the South West and South Wales, and funded the expansion of the Neo-natal intensive care suite, doubling the provision for intensive care treatment.
In 2012 the charity created Cots for Tots House, a dedicated 12-bed home from home, providing free accommodation to parents, brothers and sisters whose babies are being treated. The House is situated directly opposite the Unit so families are able to stay together and close to their loved ones during an incredibly difficult time in their lives. This is especially vital to families who have travelled from as far afield as Cornwall to receive treatment at the South West’s specialist centre.
