Aardman wins Annie Award for Flight of the Stories
ardman were honoured with one of the animation industries most coveted awards at a glitzy red carpet event held at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday Night. Aardman director Darren Dubicki attended the 42nd Annual Annie Awards™, which recognises the year’s best in animation, and picked up the award for Best Animated Television/Broadcast Commercial for ‘Flight of the Stories’. Other nominees in the category were Citizen M with “Swan Song” from PES Film/Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham by Plastic Wax Studio.
The 90-second film, commissioned to promote IWM London and the new First World War Galleries and to commemorate the First World War Centenary, depicts the journey of personal stories and letters written by those who never left the fields of Northern France during the First World War.
In the film, quotation mark characters symbolising these stories emerge as lines are read from letters and diaries entrusted to the museum by relatives during and at the end of the First World War. As the voices gather, the bird-like characters join to form a flock, taking flight across Northern France and the English Channel, over London, and finally resting at IWM London.
