Trainee 2D Matte Painter and Background Artist - Series
Start and End Date: 9th August 2021 – 11th February 2022 (26 weeks with a potential for extension)

Location: Remote working initially, but likely to be based at Aardman’s studio in Bristol as soon as current restrictions allow.
An exciting opportunity has come up for a Trainee 2D Matte Painter and Background Artist to join the team on Aardman’s first fully in-house CG/mixed medium series Lloyd of the Flies. The series is 52eps x 11mins.
The purpose of this role will be to help with the production of high quality background colour keys and layered Matte paintings under the direction of the Art Director. You will assist the Art Director and Lead Background artists in the day-to-day production tasks of the Background Department.
You will be expected to take creative briefs from the Art Director and Lead Background Artists, and ensure continuity of style, lighting and tone across all matte paintings and background artwork for the Series. The role will involve collaborating with production to produce a schedule of asset stills / photogrammetry required for matte paintings.
You will work on the designs for more than one episode at a time, dealing with any revisions efficiently and effectively. In addition to this you will attend technical / process meetings and communicate schedule challenges where appropriate and where any issues impact delivery schedules.
We are looking for a someone with strong drawing and digital painting skills with strong knowledge of working with Cintiq and Photoshop & Illustrator. Working knowledge of Maya and knowledge of CG comp software and process (eg Nuke or similar) useful but not essential. You will be a proactive and flexible team player with the ability to take direction and a strong portfolio showing set and environment designs.
