MORPH STARS IN TESCO AD
- Tesco has brought back more iconic characters from across the decades, as second ad to celebrate its 100th anniversary airs on TV and appears on billboards, bus stops and in newspapers across Britain.
- Ad campaign features memorable moments from across the decades, including appearances from Anneka Rice in her cult ‘Treasure Hunt’ jumpsuit, 90s fitness guru, Mr Motivator, and everyone’s favourite mischievous animated clay character, Morph.
After bringing Mr Blobby back to fame in January this year, Tesco looked to another cult hero who found fame in the 80s to star in their latest advert to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Morph, the mischievous clay character who made his TV debut over 40 years ago, appears alongside his old pal Chas.
The ad also features an appearance from 90s fitness guru, Mr Motivator, and a jumpsuit-clad Anneka Rice in original footage from the gameshow, Treasure Hunt.
And so far, the public has been only too delighted by Morph’s reappearance on our TV sets:
One user tweeted: “The new @Tesco ad is brilliant! #morph #treasurehunt”.
While another said: “Challenge Anneka and Morph! 😍😍 beats mr blobby hands down!”
Tesco Chief Customer Officer, Alessandra Bellini, said: “Our event to celebrate 100 years of great value was extremely popular in January, so we want to help our customers by bringing it back and making it bigger and better. We will offer unbeatable prices on popular products, from branded and own-brand, through to fresh fruit, meat and vegetables. This time, we’ll also bring some Jack’s Products to Tesco stores and even say thank you to our most loyal customers by giving Clubcard Prices on selected products!”
Of his appearance in the campaign, Merlin Crossingham Director of Morph comments: “We are delighted that Tesco have invited Morph to feature as a warm TV memory in their latest commercial campaign. At the age of 42 Morph is still going strong causing mischief and having fun with his best pal Chas.
Morph is such a fundamental part of the Aardman studio with over four decades of adventures under his belt and still entertaining to this day, we love it when he is loved. Whether you huddled round an old-style TV or stream him online we are delighted that he creates happy memories and represents good times.”
