Shaun in the City Art Trail Comes to London and Bristol in 2015!
2015 is going to be a very BIG year for Shaun the Sheep! Not only is he starring in his own movie in early 2015, but it has just been announced that 120 individually designed giant Shaun statues will be popping up in central locations in both London and Bristol in the UK!
Recently voted the nation’s all-time favourite BBC children’s TV character in a Radio Times poll, Aardman Animations’ Shaun the Sheep will take centre-stage in Shaun in the City, a major public arts trail taking place in 2015.
‘Shaun in the City’ follows on from the phenomenal success of Gromit Unleashed trail which attracted a whopping 1.8 million visitors and raised £4.5 million for Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Shaun in the City will launch in London in March next year, co-inciding with the Chinese Year of the Sheep and following the release of Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep the Movie, when the mischievous character is set to make his big screen debut.
Shaun the Sheep creator Nick Park is closely involved with the project and will be designing one of the sculptures on the trail himself.
He will be joined by an eclectic array of high-profile artists, designers, celebrities and local talent, who will each bring their individual flair and customise a giant sculpture for the major tourist attraction and community event. The line-up of prestigious artists and celebrities will be revealed as the campaign unfolds.
Nick Park said: “The Shaun in the City trail means so much to me. This opportunity to bring an arts trail to life with Gromit’s pal Shaun the Sheep is baa-rilliant! Shaun is such a well-loved character with fans all over the world. He will add such colour to our streets and I am sure many will flock to the City to be part of the fun. I am particularly looking forward to working with so many talented artists and seeing how they will use Shaun as their canvas!”
28th March – 25th May 2015
6th July – 31st August 2015
When the trails end there will be a grand auction which will see each Shaun go to a permanent new home. Funds raised through the auction will benefit sick children in hospitals in Bristol, London and the UK.
