Tell us about your role at Aardman – describe a typical day:
Honestly, no two days are ever the same - and that’s exactly why I love it! Even after three years at Aardman and recently stepping into the Talent Manager role for Animation and Rigging, has kept everything feeling new and exciting.
One minute I’m playing Tetris with the schedule, making sure the right crew are exactly where they need to be, and the next I’m putting together showreels ready for our next big production. I start at 9am from our features studio at Aztec West. Most days you’ll find me bouncing between researching new talent, building up our amazing teams, and heading down to the studio floor to catch up with our Animators, Assistants and Riggers, check in on how everyone’s doing, and help with whatever they need.
And when we’re not busy making magic happen? We’re celebrating it! Awards, project milestones, you name it – it’s the best vibe. Really, it’s a dream job and I wouldn’t swap it for anything.
How did you get into the industry?
My journey into the industry was anything but traditional. When I finished high school, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I ended up doing a few weeks of work experience at the local police station – and somehow, that turned into a full-time job! I went from archiving crime files to working as an investigator in the Crime Desk department. On top of that, I became a Special Constable in my final years of service. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t where I was meant to be.
Twelve years later, I was itching for change – something more creative, something I was passionate about. With a big nudge from my friends and colleagues, I started exploring new paths. I landed my first role as a Location Assistant on the TV series Wild Things, which was filmed in the scenic woods of Leighton Buzzard. I absolutely loved the experience—it sparked a real passion for working in production. That opportunity opened the door to runner jobs on shows like Britain’s Got Talent, which I took on during my spare time. Those early experiences gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and fully commit to a career in the industry. It’s funny looking back—I actually applied for a role at Aardman on Early Man in 2016, though the whole experience now feels like a bit of a blur. Clearly, it wasn’t the right time for me, and I’m a firm believer that timing matters.
At one point, I nearly let my doubts get the better of me and stepped away from pursuing work in my field. That detour unexpectedly led me to a job at a film school. Although it wasn’t quite the industry I had imagined myself in, it turned out to be a valuable learning experience-both personally and professionally. I started as a receptionist, eventually coordinated the Game Design & Development course, and took on wider responsibilities over time. I was lucky to work with a brilliant Head of Department, Alan Thorn, and found real joy in supporting students' creative growth. By that point, I had become completely fascinated by animation—on a deeper level than just watching it. I couldn’t quite explain it, but something about the craft, the storytelling, and the creativity behind it kept pulling me in. After two and a half years, I knew it was time to follow that passion and take on my next challenge.
When I applied for the Animation & Rigging Coordinator role at Aardman, I sent off my application and didn’t think twice – I never imagined I’d hear back. So, when HR called to invite me to interview, I was completely stunned. The rest? History. I packed my bags, moved to Bristol two days before my new job, and started this incredible new adventure.
I’m now proud to say I’m Aardman’s Talent Manager for Animation & Rigging. I feel so lucky to be here, doing what I love for a studio I’ve admired since I was a kid. Here’s to chasing your passion, taking leaps, and never underestimating where your path might lead. I’ve never looked back!
What’s your all-time favourite project that you’ve been involved with and why?
Ooooh, that’s a tough one – I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a few amazing productions, and each one has its own kind of magic. But if I had to choose, it’s got to be Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Growing up watching Aardman films (yes, including the original Chicken Run on TV!), landing my very first role on the sequel felt totally surreal – a proper “pinch me” moment. I remember my first day at Aardman like it was yesterday – full-on chaos, in the best way possible – and I loved getting stuck into the action early in the shoot. That production felt like one big, brilliant family, and I made some lifelong friends along the way. It was also my first-ever feature credit, which makes it even more special. Honestly, the whole experience opened the door to so many unforgettable moments – the kind that live rent-free in your head forever. Life’s a whirlwind, and this was one of those wild, wonderful turns where anything can happen!
To date, what has been your biggest professional achievement?
Walking away from stability and comfort was terrifying – but it’s hands down the boldest, most rewarding move I’ve ever made in my career. Stepping into the unknown leaving behind everything familiar, has become my proudest professional achievement. Today, I’m the Talent Manager for Animation & Rigging at a company I grew up absolutely loving – and they took a chance on me. That still blows my mind. Dreams really do come true – but sometimes, you have to silence the doubt, take a deep breath, and leap. I did, and I’ve never looked back. Anything’s possible when you back yourself. No regrets – only pride!
What are your tips for maintaining a healthy work-life balance?
Everyone’s rhythm is different, but for me, the 9-6 weekday structure really works. I really value Aardman’s culture of switching off at 6pm – it encourages a healthy balance and gives us space to reset before diving back in the next day. My evenings and weekends are sacred – that’s when I recharge, explore personal projects or just unwind. I keep my notifications off outside of work to protect that time. Mental wellbeing is a big priority for me, so I make space for things like regular journaling, catch-ups with friends, and intentional breaks from social media.
Name three people who inspire you and why:
- My Dad. He’s always been my hero. From a young age, he taught me to be true to myself and to chase what I want, no matter what others think. That kind of support shaped everything for me.
- My partner, Maraike Kraemer — we met at Aardman just over three years ago, right at the start of our journeys, and recently celebrated our two-year anniversary. She lifts me up every single day. Her warmth, her joy, and the gentle way she encourages me to be kind to myself are deeply grounding. She supports me unconditionally, and I feel incredibly lucky to grow and learn just by being around her.
- Renée Zellweger. Specifically, for giving the world Bridget Jones. That character made it ok for me to not have a perfect plan, to stumble, to be real – and still believe in myself. It honestly shaped how I see life. And meeting Renée in person? She’s just as lovely as you’d hope – total inspiration!
Who is your favourite Aardman character and why?
Ahhh difficult one! Three years ago, I’d have said Morph in a heartbeat – the Aardman legend that first hooked me as kid. BUT now? It’s all about Feathers McGraw. That little genius cracks me up every time! Working on Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl has only deepened my obsession – absolutely mind-blown!
